ABSTRACT

This action research was done for the purpose to help the pupils in a simple and easy way to understand the use of “he” and “she” in sentences that shows picture of girl, boy, man, woman or its names. So, this research is to give the basic technique for the pupils on how to use the words of “he” and “she” in sentences and how to memorize the use of it in more clear view and easy to understand. I noticed that from their result in answering the English Language Exam paper during the first semester exam, almost 60% of them were still not confident and very weak in differentiate the use of personal pronouns “he” and “she” in a sentence. This research involved 40 pupils in Year 1 Firdaus that consists of 17 boys and 23 girls. I gathered all the information using observations in their previous exam papers and conducted pre-test to define clearly the weaknesses among them. Then, I found that most of them were just guessing the word of “he” and “she” while using them in sentences and this was because they confused which one used for girl and for boy. So, I had introduced to them a technique called “Datuk K married Siti” where the letter of “S” stands for “Siti” and after married with “Datuk K” that equals to He=Man and so S+He, then the word of “She” existed. I am using these two famous people because most of the pupils, when I asked them who knows Siti Nurhaliza? Most of them automatically knew who she is and when I show the picture of this singer, they knew that she was Siti Nurhaliza, the famous singer in our country, Malaysia. So I demonstrated the concept in a simple MS Power Point presentation, using four activities that I called “He-Man-Datuk K” married “S-Siti-She”, “PP Song or Personal Pronouns Song”, “Fun, Learn and Enjoy with ICT” or FLEict and “Magic Board of Personal Pronouns”. After the implementation of the four activities, I had conducted pre-test to get their feedback whether the technique effective or not. From the pre-test result, I found that this technique was effective and the results showed that the high percentage in amount of pupils that get the good grades and none of them failed in the pre-test. I am really satisfied with the technique and will use it as one of the effective tool in teaching English Language in the classroom and this research really help me to become more creative in my teaching and learning process and the most important things, the learning process in the classroom are more meaningful, motivating and memorable.
